The Alberni Valley is in the Pacific Temperate Rainforest and as such, water defines this area. This is an area where millions of liters of fresh water enters the ocean daily making this area ground zero in the life sustaining hydrologic cycle. The habitat here is amazing. The estuary is rife with bird life while the forests are home to deer, black bears, wolfs and cougars.
We don't have a problem with encounters with top-of-the-food-chain predators but it is very humbling to hike, bicycle and sea kayak in an area where the term wilderness still means something. While it is world famous for its multi-species salmon runs, scratch a little deeper and you'll find world class bicycling, hiking and sea kayaking.
